Sokolander/iStock/ThinkstockJust like everyone has a favorite Christmas tradition, everyone also has a favorite Christmas song. But what that song is probably depends on how old you are…and where you grew up.
James Bay, who’s British, says his favorite Christmas song isn’t one that a lot Americans know, but it’s a huge hit back in his home country: “Merry Xmas, Everybody,” by the band Slade.
“Go and check it out. It’s, like, the best Christmas song,” James tells ABC Radio. “Slade. S-L-A-D-E. Great band from Birmingham in the U.K. It’s like rock-and-roll and Christmas at the same time.” You can also check out Train‘s version of that song, which they released last year.
And speaking of U.K. Christmas classics, Daya loves the holiday hit by the British duo Wham!
“‘Last Christmas‘ is my go-to because I just love singing that; I love performing that,” she tells ABC Radio. “But I love anything Mariah Carey too.”
Yes, when it comes to holiday tunes, Mariah’s timeless Christmas smash seems to be come out on top.
“Everybody probably says this, but it’s Mariah Carey ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’” Bebe Rexha tells ABC Radio. “It’s just amazing. The melody, the lyric, you know, it’s the holiday season, you wanna be in love, you wanna be ‘cupped up,’ and her voice is just so amazing. It’s just, like, the perfect Christmas song.”
On Billboard’s Holiday chart, Mariah’s song is #1, of course. “Last Christmas” is #11. But sorry, James, Slade is nowhere to be found.
