Lukas Graham Singer Got Grammy News While On Diaper Duty

Danny ClinchOn Tuesday, Lukas Graham Forchhammer, lead singer of the Danish band Lukas Graham, was absolutely thrilled to learn that his band had been nominated for three Grammys — even if he was elbow deep in baby poop at the time.

The group is currently on the road, and Lukas tells People magazine, “I was changing my baby’s [diaper] when I was told. I came back in from a truck stop and I was changing a diaper while I was being nominated for a Grammy. So that was a little bit of a strange victory situation right there.”

Lukas’ daughter Viola is 10 weeks old.

Lukas Graham is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, all for the hit “7 Years.”

He tells People, “It’s just amazing that I wrote a song about becoming a father and now we’re nominated for three Grammys for that song and [Viola’s] with me on tour and everything. My life is slowly but surely coming together, just like I was dreaming it would.”

He adds, “A Grammy nomination is a huge thing! I feel quite ecstatic.”  He should be — according to People, Lukas Graham is the first Danish act ever to earn a Grammy nod.

The singer tells People that he and his “7 Years” co-writer congratulated each other on the phone, and reminisced about the fact that they used to talk about how they’d be Grammy nominees some day.

“I don’t know if we really believed it or if we were just pumping up each other’s egos,” he laughs. “As teenagers you need to believe a little more in yourself to make it, you know? I was just on the phone with him…I had to say, ‘Hey, Stefano man, you gotta save a little of that Grammy vibe for when we meet in a couple weeks!”

The Grammys will be handed out February 12.
