Courtesy Atlantic RecordsJust a week after Madonna kicked it in the car, Bruno Mars took the passenger seat in the latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke” Tuesday night on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Things got underway fast, as host James Corden joined Mars on his latest hit single, “24K Magic,” from his album of the same name. Mars also performed “24K Magic” on the season finale of The Voice on Tuesday night — his “Carpool Karaoke” appearance was recorded several weeks ago.
Corden also said how much he admired Bruno’s hats, which of course led to them trying on hats, including a top hat and powder blue 70s-style pimp hat.
Next was a spirited version of “Locked Out of Heaven,” after which Bruno confessed it was seeing Elvis when Mars was just four years old that inspired him to be a singer, and he used to sing Elvis songs even then. Mars then did a brief acapella version of “Jailhouse Rock.” Corden referred to himself as “Fat Elvis” and asked Mars if he would ever let himself go so we could see “Fat Bruno” to which Mars replied, “If that doesn’t happen, then I didn’t make it!”
After that, the two sang “Grenade” and “Versace on the Floor.” Corden joked that he had never been with a woman who wore Versace, only Target.
“If I Knew” came next. Corden then asked Bruno what he asks for in his tour rider, and Mars replied “wine and wet wipes.” Corden suggested he use that for his next album title. Finally, the guys performed Bruno’s smash hit “Uptown Funk” for the finale.
The Late Late Show airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. ET on CBS.
