Parkwood/Columbia RecordsIn 2016, people wanted to know all about Beyonce, Celine Dion, “Cake by the Ocean” and “Formation.” That’s according to Google’s list of the most-searched-for artists and songs of the past year.
Since she’s topped all the other year-end music lists, it’s no surprise that Beyonce is #1 on Google’s list of most-searched-for music artists of the year, while her song “Formation” was the song most people were searching for.
The rest of the top-10 most-searched-for artists include Celine Dion, whose husband and brother both died early this year; Kesha, who sued her producer for abusing her; Coldplay, who performed on the Super Bowl and had a huge tour, and Grace Vanderwaal, the preteen who won America’s Got Talent.
The top 10 also includes Kanye West, who made headlines for his and his wife Kim Kardashian‘s feud with Taylor Swift and his erratic behavior, and Guns ‘n Roses, who reunited for a successful tour.
As for the most-searched-for song, after “Formation,” it was “Purple Rain,” as people looked for Prince‘s songs in the wake of his shocking death in April. Next was “Black Beatles,” the song that soundtracked a million Mannequin Challenge videos, and Desiigner‘s “Panda,” which hit #1 earlier this year.
The rest of the top 10 includes Drake‘s smash hit “One Dance,” which topped the chart for 10 weeks; DNCE‘s breakout hit “Cake by the Ocean,” Adele‘s mega-hit “Hello,” Ruth B‘s debut single “Lost Boy,” metal band Disturbed cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound of Silence” and Mike Posner‘s hit remix “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.”
The top three on Google’s list of the top dead celebrity searches of 2016 are all musicians as well: Prince, David Bowie and Christina Grimmie.
