Alicia Keys Delivers Powerful Musical Message on Tuesday’s “The Voice”

Tyler Golden/NBCThe Voice coach Alicia Keys used Tuesday night’s results show to weigh in on the fallout from last Tuesday’s presidential election, which resulted in GOP candidate Donald Trump pulling off an upset victory over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

After launching into a bit of “Blended Family (What You Do for Love),” the new song from her album Here, Keys revealed she’d be singing another track, called, “Holy War,” backed by fellow coach Adam Levine on guitar.

“That’s my new song, “Blended Family,” that I was supposed to sing tonight,” she announced. “[But] because of the current climate, there’s only one song I can sing: ”Holy War.”

The opening verse of “Holy War” includes the lines, “Oh so we can hate each other and fear each other. We can build these walls between each other.” They’re answered in the chorus with, “Oh maybe we should love somebody. Oh maybe we could care a little more. So maybe we should love somebody, instead of polishing the bombs of holy war.”

Here, Keys’ sixth studio album, is available now.
