ABC/Randy HolmesAndy Grammer‘s hit “Fresh Eyes” is about seeing the person you love in a new light. According to Andy, it’s inspired by an actual experience he had with his wife, where he spotted her looking and acting in a way he’d never really seen before.
“We were on vacation and she was in the other room and she couldn’t see that I saw her,” Andy tells ABC Radio. “And she woke up with her hair all over the place and she started rapping Big Sean[‘s hit ‘I Don’t F*** with You’].”
“I could see her through the door,” he laughs. “And I was like, ‘Man, I don’t even know who that is!’”
“I think we’ve all had moments like that with the person that you’re with,” he adds. “You’re like, ‘Who the hell are you?’ And you need those. Those are sweet. Those help you kinda keep it fresh.”
“Fresh Eyes” is one the new songs Andy’s been performing on his tour with Gavin DeGraw, which ends November 9 in Florida. The tour, which started at the end of August, has been a great experience for both artists, who are old pals. Andy says there’s no competition between them.
“I don’t necessarily go out there going like, ‘I wanna blow him away,’” says Andy. “I wanna go, ‘What an incredible ticket to come see.’ Like, I would love to go see this show!”
“If you think of somebody you’re really good friends with, getting to go on tour with them, it’s like not a ton of competition, it’s more just like, ‘What? Really? This is my job? Sleepover!’” Andy adds.
By the way, Andy and Gavin are alumni of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, but they haven’t been watching the show on tour.
